Looking for a new way to teach kids about the immune system?
Viral attack is a kid-friendly introduction to the human immune system. Educators will enjoy the comic book style used to tell the story of how our bodies are working to keep us healthy.
How to use Viral Attack
Online the "Learn More" icon takes students directly to the science behind the story.
Depending on the resources and needs of the instructor, Viral Attack can be introduced using computers or printed materials. The Web version includes hyperlinks that allow students to drill down and learn more about the cells in the immune system. For non mediated classrooms, Viral Attack can either be downloaded as a printable PDF, or copies of the comic book can be ordered from MagCloud. There is also a companion video you can share with students (note the video is hosted on YouTube).
The act of learning
The comic book is based on an activity developed by the Arizona Science Center. Vistors to the center can become one of the characters and act out the play. The comic book also allows teachers to do the same thing in the classroom. Using Viral Attack as both a script and storyboard, it is possible to have your students act out the role of the immune system.
The characters found in the human immune system help create a great story to act out in the classroom.
