Flora of Naurzum Zapovednik

About a third of Naurzum Zapovednik is occupied by steppe vegetation. At the end of April, the steppe is covered completely by a carpet of colorful flowers. At the end of May and beginning of June, the grasslands are covered in silver-colored feather grass that moves in the wind like ocean waves.

One of the most beautiful and rare flowers found in Naurzum are the Shrenkii tulips. These tulips are found only on the Kazakstan steppe and have been listed, along with three other plant species, in the Kazakstan Red Book. Other vegetation types found in the zapovednik include: Scotch pines, aspen, birch, white poplar, olive, bird cherry and willow trees.
